Queensferry played host to competitors in the 2008 Round Britain Offshore Powerboat Race last Friday.

Around 25 boats arrived in Queensferry during the day having left Inverness earlier that morning on the 210 mile trip south.

The first boat across the finish line just off Cramond Island was Wettpunkt.Com, which completed the leg in just under three hours at an average speed of 70mph.

The boats berthed at Port Edgar Marina for the night and set off the following morning for Newcastle on the next stage of the race watched by a large number of spectators.

Several boats had to return to Port Edgar as heavy seas further out in the Forth put paid to their race aspirations.

Wettpunkt.Com again took first place on the leg to Newcastle completing the 132 mile course in one hour 30 minutes averaging 88mph but had to pull out near Lowestoft in the final leg when its propeller snapped.

The overall race winner at Portsmouth on Monday was the Greek-entered Blue FTB.
