BO'NESS United crashed out of the East of Scotland Cup against high flying Bathgate Thistle when a promising display was shattered in the final 30 minutes when three goals saw Bathgate cruise into the next round Eamon Fullerton and David Thornton were cup tied, forcing Bo'ness to make changes with Scott Mauchline and Scott Brown coming in from the start.
Bo'ness ........................................... 2
Bathgate .......................................... 5

There was also a shuffling of the pack but Bo'ness made a good enough start to the game though Bathgate looked dangero
us up front with a
couple of early chances.

However, it was the BUs who went ahead in 14 minutes when low cross by McCafferty broke nicely for Mauchline who slotted in but Bathgate's response was instant with McFadyen heading in from a Wilson cross.

The rest of the first half saw Bo'ness give as good as they got but there were no more goals. However, chances were created at either end at the start of the second period but in 52 minutes Bathgate got ahead when McGrillen stumbled over the ball in the box but it carried onto substitute Nicholson who made no mistake, firing past Burns.

Bathgate started to play with some confidence but it was Bo'ness's turn to hit back in 56 minutes when Donnelly fired in a great volley from the edge of the box.

The game was close at this point with Bo'ness giving a good account of themselves but in 65 minutes Bathgate regained their lead when a corner on the right found McGrillen who hit an angled drive that went in via the underside of the crossbar. Only three minutes later Bathgate stretched their lead when a hesitant Bo'ness defence failed to pick up Harvey who shot home from just inside the box.

Bo'ness were stunned, though they rallied and a Morrison shot went
narrowly pastbut it was only a temporary reprieve as in 75 minutes Bathgate scored goal number five.

Bo'ness failed to deal with a corner on the right and McColligan sent the ball back across the goal where Menmuir headed in at the back post.
