Tae Kwon Do titles for Julia's students

MARTIAL arts students in Queensferry are proving themselves on the national stage.

No less than seven students of Julia Cross, the current World and European Tae-Kwon Do champion, were successful at the British Tae-Kwon Do championships held in Perth.

The championships saw around 400 competitors from all over Britain take part with 28 from Julia Cross's Queens-ferry based TKD School.

At the end of the competition her students gained seven British titles plus seven silver and seven bronze medallists.

South Queensferry TKD also finished fourth in the overall table.
The competitors ranged from tots (120cm) and white belts to senior heavy weights, aged 30 upwards and black belts.

The medal winners were: British Champions — Michael McRoberts, 9-11 years; Phillip Baillie, 12-15 years; Rheannan Brown, 12-15 years; Gilles Brown, 12-15 years; Jamie Swinburne, senior heavy; Kerry-Ann Taylor, senior middle; and Kevin MacArthur, senior heavy. The new British champions won their titles in the sparring discipline.

The other medallists were: Ynyr Liddell, 9 years, (silver) sparring; Glen Raby, 9-11 years, (silver) sparring and (silver) in special technique; Ryan Frost, 12-15 years (silver) sparring and (bronze) patterns; Kerry-Ann Taylor (silver), patterns; Alan Ramsay, senior, (silver) sparring and (bronze) patterns; Kevin MacArthur, senior, (silver) power breaking; Liam Brown; 9-11 years, (bronze) sparring; Catriona McRoberts, 9-11 years, (bronze) patterns; Michael McRoberts, 9-11 years, (bronze) special technique; Rheannan Brown, 12-15 years, (bronze) special techniques; Jamie Swinburne, senior, (bronze) patterns.

Julia said: "All the Queensferry students did their school proud, whether they won medals or not, showing great spirit, enthusiasm and support for their team mates."
